Non-Rebreathing Mask
A non-rebreather mask (NRB) is a medical device that facilitates the administration of oxygen therapy. The mask is equipped with a reservoir bag and is connected to an external oxygen source. It is capable of preventing inhalation of ambient air, thus allowing the breathing of air supplied by the oxygen source. The mask covers both the nose and mouth, and is fixed with an elastic string around the individual’s head. It also has one-way valves that prevent exhaled air from reentering the oxygen reservoir. The mask allows oxygen delivery at higher concentrations than low-flow nasal cannulae, and requires the patient to be able to breathe independently without ventilatory assistance.
