A rectal catheter is a medical device that is used to cannulate the rectal canal to perform diagnostic or therapeutic procedures. The catheter consists of a flexible, transparent PVC tube, the distal end of which is rounded and has two opposing holes. The opposite end has a PVC cone connector, which connects the catheter to other devices. As long as the patient is regularly and consistently monitored while the device is in use, he or she may sit for short periods of up to 2 hours at the time of daily nursing care.
